Borscht

Yes I know....another soup. I guess I am on some sort of soup binge because I went to the fruiterie this afternoon and kept grabbing things to make different soup with. I like making soup, it makes the house smell good and small clean up ( one pot). I can start it early and leave it on the stove for dinner. Plus it usually will last until the next day for lunch.

Sometimes it nice blended but I decided to grate the beet and cabbbage, eat it chunky style.

2 tbsp olive oil
1 onion- sliced
2 cloves garlic-minced
2 medium beets- peeled, grated
2 small potatoes- peeled. grated
2 cups red cabbage shredded
7 cups vegetable stock or water
1 tbsp dried dill
2 tbsp red wine vinegar
freshly ground pepper
sea salt
fresh parsley- chopped

In a large pot heat oil add oinon and garlic- saute until soft
add the rest of the ingredients and bring to a boil. simmer until veggies are done (not mushy)
season with sea salt, pepper and parsley.

Liquid Gold

It's my birthday on Saturday and J planned a special afternoon for us to spend together, I had no idea what we were going to do...but I had a idea it was going to have something to do with food! We stopped on route to grab a bottle of wine. (that's how I knew it was to do with food)

When we arrived at Liquid Gold, I was surprise to say the least. A Olive oil tasting bar? Huh? I have never heard of an olive oil tasting bar....but what was to come was one of the best experiences since living in Nova Scotia (besides the beaches!)

When we walked into the charming hydrostone building, it was lined with stainless steel barrels that were all shined up with spouts. I was excited!! Are you telling me we can taste ALL of these!

Yes that says CHOCOLATE Balsamic!

Not only do they carry the freshest olive oil you can get your hands on here, but they also have a tons of different balsamic vinegars. I was in heaven! The owners Bill & Myrna were super nice and let the little one explore there store while we tasted. I got a bit of a background about the olive oil, which was really cool.

Leeluu chill'n with the owner Bill
Once I finished tasting it was the deciding that was hard. I choose the 18 year old balsamic vinegar and two olive oils. One was a very mellow tasting oil with a hint of apple ( Manzanillo), and I also choose a flavored olive oil the mushroom & sage.  The bottles are neat and if you bring them back for a refill you get a little discount! I had a great experience at Liquid Gold, I won't buy olive oil anywhere else after tasting fresh stuff!

I will be blogging a lot more with vegan MOFO just a few days away! I hope to get some good pictures, with winter on its way I find it harder to get pictures of what I am cooking, the light just isn't the same.

Our Oceans, Our Planet

The Ocean is a big part of my life, I love spending my time near it, walking next to it, just sitting and talking to it. I named my first child after it. I hope my grand kids and their kids and kids and kids...get to enjoy it as much as I have in my time on this earth.

Unfortunately there isn't a day that goes by that I am not painfully thinking about our oceans, and what is happening at this very moment.

I feel that it has been thrown to the side so to speak in the media. Its no longer a top story..why? This should be on everyone's mind...constantly. After all we live here, and want to breath clean air, drink fresh water, and be surrounded by beauty?

I saw Earthlings some time ago, and when they referred to other creatures that we share this planet with as other nations. It was a profound moment in my life.

I am so sad, all these beautiful creatures are choking to death on oil, or burned alive. This whole situation is F**ked! I feel so helpless.

Why do humans feel so entitled?
