"New Old House" Kitchens by Barbara Herr...
I decided to highlight some of my favorite kitchen sources today. We'll start with Barbara Herr Kitchens of Marietta, Pennsylvania.
For anyone restoring a period home, perhaps a farmhouse, or building a "new old house," especially with early American influences, you'll really love her work. You can find out more information, and view more of her portfolio at www.barbaraherrkitchens.com.

| This kitchen is so spacious -- and the windows let in so much light. I also love the dark panes of the windows against the creamy white cabinetry and walls... |

| For those who are interested in the concept of the "keeping room" within the kitchen, this is fantastic. The fireplace adds such warmth to the room... |

This is another beautiful example of an updated farmhouse kitchen. I love the glass storage / display cabinet on the right, which looks like a piece of fine furniture. |

| Again, the glass display cabinet and the wall of windows, which let in so much light. Here she uses some warmer tones. Notice the stone wall... |
A Hudson Valley Farm by G. P. Schafer Architect
G. P. Schafer Architect designed this exceptional Hudson Valley Farm. We've posted a few photos below, but you can learn more by visiting the G. P. Schafer Architect website at www.gpschafer.com.
"A large farm with dramatic views is the setting for this newly completed stone farmhouse and outbuildings. The 9,000 square foot Colonial Revival main house, built of Connecticut granite, was designed to appear to have grown and evolved over time. A 3,500 wood and stone Carriage Barn, a small stone Gardener's Shed, and a Pool and Pool Cabana create a precinct of buildings surrounding the house and anchor it in a landscape developed by (G. P. Schafer) in collaboration with noted landscape designer Deborah Nevins.
"The project's interior has been designed to reinforce the idea that house grew over time, with the interior architecture and moldings rooted in the American Federal Period suggested by the antique Hudson Valley mantels found for the house." -- G. P. Schafer Architect
