{inspiration} Atlanta Show House pick

As a former New York city girl my next statement might seem a bit out of place but there is something very appealing to me about Southern decor. More specifically, Southern decor that is not overtly formal in style. What I love are the Southern rooms that could sit nestled amongst magnolia trees on heavy, late summer afternoons. Spaces where there is an ease inside of the walls and a special character that only comes with time.

Atlanta Home Magazine is a favorite stop of mine when sourcing what is current in decorating trends and design inspiration. I find that it adds a nice perspective that is not uniquely East or West coast. In it, they recently featured a wonderful article on The 2010 Atlanta Symphony Associates Decorators’ Show House & Gardens. This year the showcase was situated in Buckhead’s prestigious Tuxedo Park and offered a grand canvas for it's team of talented designers. My absolute favorite entry was a glorious dining room by Meg Adams that carefully mixed a beautiful turquoise color with a soft neutral backdrop. Anchoring the room was a reclaimed wood table paired with linen dressed chairs and two perfectly tailored benches. Every touch worked effortlessly. Please, please, please take note of the perfect Osborne & Little fabric and the Empire-style chandelier. To die!

{inspiration} White, Black, Citron & Red

Welcome back from another wonderful summer weekend everyone. I realized Saturday as I was flipping through my September issue of Traditional Home that I don't often feature kitchens. It isn't that I don't fancy them, I actually spend most of my free time in or around our kitchen/dining space. So when I saw this wonderfully sophisticated yet cheerful space nestled on 3 acres in Bridgehampton, NY I thought it would make the perfect inspiration post to share with you.
What struck me instantly about the rooms was the color palette. Whites, acid greens, deep mahogany and black all working together to create a space that is polished, yet feels totally modern and at ease with itself. But what really drew me in and makes it utterly fantastic is the unexpected pop of red. I adore it! Combined with simple cabinets, silver hardware and a charming beadboard ceiling the room has charm & loads of quiet character.
I also couldn't pass up highlighting their fabulous dining room. Great farmhouse table, wicker backed chairs, incredibly relaxed yet polished dinnerware & a thick sisal rug are somehow all elevated up a notch by the addition of vintage inspired red water glasses. With one, well appointed tabletop the two rooms now become one thought. Love the paneled walls for added architectural detail and texture. Just perfection!

{idea notebook} White

Ah.... we all know that I love white. White rooms, white furniture, white tablescapes, white flowers, white linens, white, white, white. So, today I thought that it would be fitting to pay homage to this love.

To me white is blissfully romantic layered and folded onto itself. That is my kind of white; White where shades mix together to create fullness of body and warmth within a space. But white can also be graphic and stark, preppy and clean. There are endless possibilities, timeless possibilities. Above I have featured images that inspire my work and products I love to use within it. I think they are just perfect.

I love these pedestals! Maybe the love stems from my roots as a visual stylist but, in my opinion, nothing looks better on a tablescape than some glorious height and interesting dimension. And how cool is the juxtaposition of aged metal with these wonderfully oversized glass cloches? I could see them gracefully nestled into a chic dining moment or sitting pretty alfresco style. Oh... imagine them piled high with holiday trim! To die!

{inspiration} A Perfect Dining Space

Happy Monday everyone! To continue with my adoration of all things summer I thought I would share this great dining moment. Perfect white slipcovers & cushions nestle so lovely next to the dark wicker chairs and rustic wood table. A pop of fresh blooming flowers and a wonderful backdrop of cabinetry glass add the great contrast of hard and soft. I love when feminine and industrial meet and work together to make something wonderfully un-cookie cutter. And how elegant a pair of industrial pendant lamps can look when hanging over this serene setting. Nothing matches perfectly but it all perfectly works. Enjoy the warm breeze!
